Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is facing a lawsuit seeking $1 million in damages from two victims involved in a car crash in Dallas earlier this month.
The plaintiffs, Petrovskiy and Gromova, were occupants of a 2022 Lexus 350 SUV when their vehicle was struck by Rice and Knox. According to an affidavit obtained by the Dallas Morning News, the Lamborghini Urus, believed to be driven by Rice, was traveling at a speed of 119 mph just moments before the collision on March 30.
Knox, who is alleged to have been driving a Chevrolet Corvette, was reportedly traveling at 116 mph but decelerated to 91 mph only a second before the accident occurred.
The lawsuit filed in Dallas County court highlighted that Petrovskiy and Gromova sustained severe injuries due to the immense impact of the high-speed collision.
It further emphasized that Rice, Knox, and other occupants involved in the crash allegedly left the scene without offering any assistance to the injured victims.
“Despite the injured victims’ desperate calls for emergency aid and their attempts to exit their wrecked vehicles in a state of shock, the Defendants deliberately avoided helping the injured commuters and fled the scene,” the lawsuit stated.
The injuries suffered by Petrovskiy and Gromova, as outlined in the lawsuit, included brain trauma, facial lacerations requiring stitches, bruises, and internal bleeding.
Petrovskiy and Gromova are seeking compensation for various damages, including medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental distress, and property damage, among others.
Rice, aged 23, surrendered himself to the Glenn Heights Police Department on Thursday. He is charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury.
Similarly, Knox, a sophomore at SMU, turned himself in on Friday and faces identical charges to Rice. He has been suspended from the football program but declined further comment.
Rice publicly apologized last week, taking full accountability for his role in the incident.
